Violinist Ji Young An to perform a solo at conductorless UCLA Camarades Ensemble's first concert

April 22, 2010 - The UCLA Camarades Ensemble performs its inaugural concert at 8 p.m. tonight. This is the first time the UCLA Music Department will have a string orchestra without a conductor. Ji Young An will play on the school’s legendary Stradivarius and is the soloist for the Mendelssohn Concerto in D minor. Listen to her speak about her transition from studying music in Paris to playing in California.

"Silence the Lies: Rock the Truth" concert brings students together in remembrance of Armenian Genocide

April 27, 2010 - April 24 marked the 95th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. The El Rey Theater hosted a benefit concert called “Silence the Lies: Rock the Truth”, which aimed to raise awareness about the 1.5 million Armenians who perished in the first genocide of the 20th century. The second-annual event feaured Los Angeles-based bands like Visa and Element. More information about the event can be found at http://www.silencethelies.com.

Illusion to reality: Jacqueline Hoang’s adaptation of John Keats’ “Lamia” poem took center stage this past weekend.

What happens when a poem becomes a play? Senior English student Jacqueline Hoang completed her honors thesis project by writing, directing and producing a play based off of John Keats’ poem "Lamia." Interdepartmental effort sets up Table Cloth, an outdoor performance space

This Monday, UCLA will inaugurate a new architectural installation called Table Cloth. This latest collaboration between the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music, the department of Design | Media Arts and UCLA architectural and urban design lecturer Benjamin Ball is made of hundreds of tables. Ball calls his methods “cross-manufacturing”.

Bikers and non-bikers alike gather for Bike Night at the UCLA Hammer Museum

The biking culture in Los Angeles is relatively unknown to most Angelenos. But on April 8, the Hammer Museum celebrated all things bicycle at the second-annual Bike Night. Bike Night was coordinated by HSA, the Hammer Student Association. Not only did the event give recognition to the growing cycling community in Los Angeles, but it also served as a forum for bikers to come together and enjoy a night of music, art and food.
