National theater project "Refugee Nation" comes to UCLA, highlighting issues facing Laotian refugees and their descendants
The Laotian American Organization at UCLA hosts "Refugee Nation" at 7:30 p.m. in Ackerman Grand Ballroom on Feb. 1. Written and performed by Ova Saopeng and Leilani Chan of TeAda Productions, the performance encompasses music, video, drama and dance to illustrate the experiences of Laotians who, during the mid 1960s to '70s, fled to the U.S. to escape the armed conflict in Laos that was part of the Vietnam War. That generation remains pained by the past, and the show aims to help today’s youth to understand this complex history [4:25].
